This is a real longshot, but /lit/ is my only lead.

I remember hearing some joke on hear that everyone raved about, but I've completely forgotten it.

The structure of the joke was an author who finished his manuscript and went to the publisher to submit his work. He waited in a line, then waited in a few more lines; waiting and waiting. After finally submitting, he was redirected to some refreshments and therein lay the punchline.
