Moldbug actually laid this out pretty well in his explanation of 'High-Low vs. Center'. Why for seemingly no sane reason wretched, worthless and unpalatable groups, concepts, lifestyles etc. are held up and lauded, or imported/created if too few can be found already within a liberal-democratic society.

Liberal societies need a mass underclass that can be given a small taste of institutional power which they know they could never and have never achieved on their own, making them wholly dependent on and loyal to the ruling class and its system of governance. This makes for an effective battering ram against the middle class and its interests, which is itself the biggest threat and roadblock to the ambitions of the ruling class.
