So /lit/, do you any of you have niche literary interests?

Not talking about French literature or science fiction in general, but maybe more like early French naturalism or Soviet sci-fi. Or something even narrower, like contemporary Macedonian poetry.

For all of you who do have any specialty in relatively niche literary movements or areas, please tell us about them. Maybe recommend some good introductory works.

I thought this could be a good way to introduce everyone to things that aren't generally discussed here, by people who've studied them in depth somewhat.

Just curious, /lit/:

>What book(s) did you read during the month of June?
>Did you find it was a good month for reading for you (in terms of variety, quality, etc)?
>Did you find a new favorite, or start a few that you didn't want to finish?
>Did you read more or less than you usually do?
>Any re-reads?
>Did you tend to read authors you were familiar with in June, or try new ones?

Overall, I'd just like to hear how last month went for you all, reading wise. The questions are just a guideline of some of the things I'm curious about.

Pre-Modern Literature or Modern Literature?

As a literature major I have to declare my major tomorrow and choose a concentration. I'm having a hard time as I'm torn between the Pre-Mo and Mo concentration. I love 'em both.

But I was wondering if /lit/ could help me pick one.

Thanks

Here's a short description of each one:

1) Modern Literary Studies
The study of literature of the eighteenth, nineteenth, twentieth, and twenty-first centuries. This concentration examines ways in which modernity in general and literary modernism and postmodernism in particular emerge and develop in different countries and cultures.

2) Pre- and Early Modern Studies
The interdisciplinary study of literatures and cultures from antiquity through the early eighteenth century, especially in Europe. This concentration includes the study of popular culture and everyday life as well as readings in masterpieces of classical, medieval, early modern (Renaissance), and neo-classical literature.

Hey /lit/, how about a shelves thread? We can post pictures of our shelves and make brass assumptions about each other based on the excellence of our book collections.

So, I really want to read In Search of Lost Time by Proust, but I'm unsure which translation to get.

Is there a significant difference between the Modern Library and Penguin Classics editions?

Definitely not advocating that shit. Every formal school dance I went to, I would kick those fuckers off within 2 minutes max.

In other news, the main points I have seen in this thread: Many of the classics are aimed at men and were written by men. And don't forget all your shitty sci-fi/fantasy series out there, 'cause there are some really bad ones.

Secondly, there are countless girls who read good shit. I happen to know many of them. Thank you, that is all.
Pic somewhat related: my dream room.

Just finished House of Leaves.
Not sure if I actually liked it or not.

I'm guessing there's a lot of writers on /lit/.

So, /lit/erati, tell me a little about what you're writing.

I'm currently writing a short story (although it could go on to be a novella) about a young man who becomes obsessed with his dreams.

How many writers are on /lit/ right now? Anyone published?

I write some god awful sonnets and wish to keep improving to the point of being publishable.

/lit/ is slow today, how about a library/bookcase thread?
