The entirety of Fantasy itself isn't trashed.

The thing is, Fantasy has a very high ceiling to the point that if you don't meet that ceiling, then it's a failure.

But on the other hand, once you do meet or even exceed that ceiling, you'll be vastly rewarded, to be immortalized among human history.

Fantasy has the capability to be timeless. The writer's job is to fulfill that capability, to exercise it.

Done correctly, and Fantasy can literally form and shape cultures (most notable: The Bible) – stories are the only art form that can do that.

I enjoyed reading the longer novels of Dickens: Pickwick Papers, Copperfield, Bleak House.
Middlemarch, Moby Dick, Ulysses, The Recognitions, Anna Karenina, and Brother Karamazov are also great.
However, the longest novel I've read and enjoyed the most probably goes to The Man Without Qualities. Honorable mention goes to Mann's Magic Mountain. Still haven't approached Proust's In Search of Lost Time or the long Schmidt novel...
I am also curious in reading on Powys as well, as some anons mentioned his long Wessex novels like Glastonbury Romance (currently reading Wolf Solent).

If my fellow anons in the 4channer site said the book is Based, then I'm obliged to read that book and force myself to go through it so I have big Based points among my 4channer anons.

"Unfortunately, the weather is very bad since we have been here: storms, gales, almost continual rain; it is truly not summer weather. However, here, it typically gets much better, and the sky is not at all the same as in the region of Paris, but this year, the sun is almost always absent. There are neither mountains nor hills, at most some vineyards; but there are forests very close to Blois, and we can go for a number of hikes nearby." ~ Letter from Guenon to Guido de Giorgio.
Imagine going hiking with Guenon, while discussing about metaphysics...

OP here, I am gonna take a walk for one or two hours and come back later to the thread. Tonight I am not going to sleep at all and read "The Spiritist Fallacy", maybe also look into the pdf "False Dawn" by Lee Penn. So let's keep the thread active until tomorrow and don't let me be alone.

What is everyone working on today? You better be getting at least some writing done, even if it's only a paragraph or two

Good books on psychology? I'm specifically looking for something that tells you how to deal with stress, depression and anxiety.
Although not a book on psychological behaviour (in a way it is) but I read Aurelius' Meditations and it helped me deal with some situations and thoughts.
A friend of mine recommended "Thinking, Fast and Slow" by D. Kahneman, but it sounds like bullshit. Should I check it out?

I don't know if anyone remembers, but I posted a greentext a while back about how I accidentally knocked a load of books off the shelf at a bookstore, freaked out and ran off with a guy shouting after me. Well, I went back two months ago and was recognised by the manager, and basically I was asked to leave the premises. She didn't say I was banned, but I'm not sure if I'm allowed back.

I'm pretty sure there's people who have managed to cut out the incessant stream of bullshit (internet, news, politics) from their lives in favor of self-improvement and erudition, and I wish to follow suit, but if someone has managed to do this then I don't suppose they'd be here to explain their ways. Anyone who isn't retarded can make a startling amount of progress by dedicating themselves to study (or anything really), but whenever I try to do this for a prolonged period of time I lapse back into old habits. Any books to help me along, or would anyone who has tried to walk to same path care to enlighten and rescue us all from this site?
