I know that and just said so, but okay. I'm just saying NGE could have been cooler, and the fact that I feel that way about it means that I disagree with the poster going on about how it's a huge artistic achievement that will be remembered in 2000 years. That shit's gonna seem cheesy to way too many people.

So to flesh out the Eva x GR thing a little more, the idea was that they take place in the same timeline, with influences from characters in GR reaching the characters of Evangelion through an intervening generation of engineers, scientists, soldiers and mystics in the American military-industrial complex as America solves the problem of shielding Japan and other allies in the region from an increasingly aggressive China. It begins in the late 1980s and ends shortly before the second impact.

Asuka's interesting once you get to know her and is only disliked by fuckboys who know they'd be terrified of her in real life or robots so far gone they can't even begin to empathize with an attractive person capable of acting confident.

Ritsuko's not even a girl in my mind. She wants to be her father too much and has short hair (short hair, incidentally, is why I can't vote Rei for best girl despite her other sterling qualities).

Gravity's Rainbow by Anno would be boss. Slothrop's sorta the anti-Shinji and Katja's the anti-Rei.

Partly so. A lot of STEM people like what they do but there are an awful lot who choose it over anything else either out of a misguided concept of contributing to society or because they're insecure about their ability to gain employment without clearly defined technical skills.

The most popular concentration at Harvard is a dual concentration in English and History. Those guys are not sobbing into their pillows about not being better at solving partial differential equations, I promise.

T. STEM major who wishes he'd taken another route because he doesn't use what he learned in college and might as well have learned about things that would contribute more to my art.

This poem borders on dangerously cheesy unless you have an idea what Rei actually is.

Childhood's End by Arthur C. Clarke is basically the source material for Eva.

Gravity's Rainbow plays with similar esoteric imagery and allusions and implies a similar world-ending event.

Oh man, I'm trying to remember the exact wording that makes it so rough, but basically questioned the efficacy/existence of the Holy Spirit given the fractured nature of The Church and that he needed to either consider most other denominations not necessarily heretical but alienated from the Holy Spirit, since all believers are possessed by The Spirit and this allows them to identify each other (this point about identifying Christians with ease b/c of the spirit is also part of the case since he admitted he couldn't ID other believers without intensive questioning like the kind you get from the board of elders when you join the church).

My other case was that the extreme disagreements between scholars on Christian ethics/morality should call into question the usefulness of The Law and again call into question the salvation status of most of those involved in those disagreements, i.e. most Christians. He wasn't prepared to consider everyone disagreed with him on ethical positions to be unsaved, so he was stuck having to question his own salvation.

But I have clear (arguably unusual and interesting) goals and a plan of action to reach them. Or is this about my taste in Eva girls?
