I'm always going to be grateful to Tolkien for getting me into books as a lifestyle, and I'll always have a place in my heart for Hobbits. Sam is amazing, and LOTR in general always makes my heart warm.

Happy 4th of July everyone!
I'm on page 108 on mah writin' now an' slowly trudgin' through them there darn shadows an' wot not as per the usual.
Okay so quick rant, if you wear a hearing aid your earwax in that ear gets compacted and every time you say bite into an apple and chew your cheek presses against your ear and makes the microphone squeal if there's enough of a buildup.
The only solution to this is to pour hydrogen peroxide in my ear and lay there on my side for 10 minutes while it fizzes and breaks up the wax.
I don't wanna lay down right now so I keep putting it off but I know REEEEEE awaits me if I don't do it at some point before I go to bed.

Absolutely. The Hobbit is mostly a kids story, and still reads fine as it's not trying to craft a grand narrative.

LotR is so dense with it's world building, that while revolutionary for the time, makes reading it now a fucking slog if you're not that big on fantasy, but have played/ read/ watched enough properties inspired by it.

>Why is the only reason people ever do anything bad in the story that "they were corrupted by evil forces"?

Not a regular here, just dropping in for a question that I hope isn't asked all the time. My apologies if it is.

I recently found my first four "Wheel of Time" books which I read several years ago. From what I understand the series went south from that point on and I was wondering, in your opinion, is it worth suffering through? Also, in particular, what caused the quality to nose dive: poor writing? jumping the shark? convoluted plot?
