Thoughts on using the earlier influences of English (such as german, latin, and greek) to make puns in modern English?
I've just stumbled acrost a possibility in my poetry, heres how the pun goes, i wont trouble you will the entire sonnet just the related lines and some context.

A friend have I realized whom never lied
yet I have lied and lied, and suffered too,
but never will I my good Lord forsake or rue

the pun is on the german leid which means suffering, but it is well buried and not obvious, i dont mean for it to be jarring to someone who doesnt know german, because i wrote the poem in english, an english speaker should be able to read it.
but for those who do know german can appreciate another level of the poem
and furthermore, one could propose a third pun on the english pronunciation of 'lied' as identical to the german 'leid' meaning song, so though the writer laments that he is alone, there is consolation within Jesus Christ his Lord, in song as well as suffering

theres a lot of nuance here. he says he is the son of God, but then he also says that we are also the sons of God. and that we ourselves are gods as well. and also, he as the one supreme God, came down to the filthiness of humanity.
essentially the case he is making is that being a god isnt a very rare or notable thing.
i mean hes begotten, its not like he has any merit to be God, he simply is.
and how is dying and then resurrecting, working miracles, walking on water, and controlling the elements not proof of divinity? or perhaps when a loud voice from heaven came down and said THIS IS MY SON OF WHOM I AM WELL PLEASED
