Some of Gene "Meme" Wolfe's short stories are like that, such as one's in Endangered Species or the Island of Doctor Death and Other Stories and Other stories. A lot of the stories in those books aren't like that at all though, he had a range of styles and not all of them quite to my taste desu. Also have you played the Homeworld vidya game series?
