>We /lit/ 'tards should be racing to see who can put out the next /lit/ novel.
I wish I knew who else was planning on a publication this year besides Jason and Robert. Not even that, I don't know if there are any other collaboration works besides the various magazines and anthology works.

How can you even write literature if readers only tolerate a story like it's a newspaper? You can't. That's by design of course.

>give me 2 or 5 years to finish my entire story and then I'll get to work on my western fantasy
This feel, I know it well. For me it's give me 2 or 3 years to write a historic fiction because I'm well underway to releasing two novels next year and immediately start working on an epic. I don't want to take only one year to do it because there's like three if not four different ancient civilizations involved, it's gonna be a complicated project.

So a comp title is like:
>"Unspeakable Things, but Slaughter House 5"
So the first part is a recent horror title that got pretty alright sales, and the second part is the spin on it. In short, the first is normal, the second is the unfamiliar (in relation to the first). Harry Potter would be "Jennings, but at a wizard school!"
The spin should be a different flavor that speaks to your style and it doesn't even have to be a book, it could be another media or simply a concept, and something recognizable even if it's not in the genre. Your goal is to express both the story and how you tell it, which is not easy to do. Finish your story first then list out a bunch of things. Recently there was a novel called "Mexican Gothic" and that title is a comp title in itself.
It's an immediately clear impression when placed on a shelf. Sometimes that tactic gives cheesy titles but it works.

I just wanted to be a composer of late-romantic music. Everything that is taught and praised at music school is atonal / microtonal / serialist garbage. Why is every art form dead?

Add sensory details. It is better to use phrases like in here >>18931237
Describing words that have sense is good and you want to engage all of the senses. But a word like "sticky" is not enough because people dont always imagine what that feels like. If you say "it clings to my fingers" then they know exactly what you mean. Think of the words that you find disgusting and now describe someone experiencing it. If you engage enough senses with things that people find revolting, they will react.
Here's a teachable example: I was at work and there was a cockroach hanging upside down off the drying rack for laboratory glassware. I pulled the plug off and smashed it so loudly that my lab partner immediately knew what happened and then physically and audibly cringed, although he didn't even see it at all, he imagined it.
