Hey, I'm 17 year old brat that wants to think for himself but can't really go for the first step. What books should I read, I was thinking of Nietzsche, but I guess people here fucking despise him as fuck. Anything on Joradn Peterson's list is worth it? Educate me.

Why literature romanticize melancholy and sadness?

I used to think like that until due to some circumstances (not to discuss here) I was diagnosed with depression. Surely not anything romantic like we usually find in literature but the complete opposite, and without a clean way out (side effects of antidepressants are the worst part).

I'm looking for good thrillers or criminal novels.
I know its kinda pleb-tier, but once in a while i like to read a book for fun.

I want stories about murders, serial killers, or ritual killings that focus on the police or forensic work.

I kinda liked Jeffery Deavers Bone Collector and now im looking for more stuff.

I want to starve myself to death. Read somewhere that is a quite painless way to die, feeling nothing after the third day without food and water.

We had some fantastic threads a while back where anons would use a prompt and post their fresh, raw work. Let's do that again.

You don't have to follow the prompt if you don't feel like it'll help you.

PROMPT: "He seems lonely. What do we do?"

With the room barely lighted, shadows danced across our walls as their color changed again and again, from blue to green and then from white to pale red. I could see when pale red light her breath coming out of her almost closed lips and dissolving just in front of her face. I wasn't surprised because of the cold of the night, but I would expect —though I must confess that my expectations about her hardly become true— that her, rather than stay in the freezing night, would get into bed instead of keeping her monk-like position above the chair as she did by now, all day and night.

"Will you turn that thing off?"
"Yeah..."

But she didn't. It has been happening for a while and for more than I can remember. I heard a few coughs, she had a cold, she had had it for months.

"Who am I?" —I asked
"You"

It was a serious question, one of the many that she misunderstood due to a zero-focus issue, a problem that she doesn't seem to have with those who are not and who I would not call just like she does, effortlessly, with no qualm when she does. But I asked myself seriously, 'who am I?' in the situation in which I am. Though I had no answer I was, at the same time, too fearful of leaving — leaving it behind a like burning a book 'cause past the climax the thrill was no more. But has, the one that concerns us, finished or living an impasse? Being unable to tell where the end lies is why it comes from dawn to dusk looping with no end. Just like a fool attached to a joyful memory in times of hunger, I live where I am not because I stay, laying in bed with no sleep everytime and just wanders where those place where I'm not.

Don't bother studying philosophy. Shit made me an alcoholic and depressed. You're going to learn and realize that you can't change the world.

Talk to me about Nicomachean Ethics. If the proposed is true and the entire point of life is to be happy and everything else is so much meaningless drivel, a means to an end, is there any point to living a life of depression?
