Farewell /lit/. I think it’s time to take a step back from this board. It’s been in the works for a while. The book was about how cowardice is the worst sin, but also how every human is wholly responsible for their actions regardless of what society they live in, or what their "duty" is. It presents many examples how humans try to escape this responsibility: from Pilate, to any Moscow citizen who makes themselves follow the state doctrine. There is always a conflict between society and it's laws and God/moral values - and it is cowardice to not choose the latter.
The devil is not Stalin, as the Russian society already is under Stalinist rule in the book. The devil is the author's instrument of unholy judgement and punishment, who picks the Stalinist society apart. The book becomes quite obvious with even a short read of the wikipedia article on the author's life. I have no idea how retarded you have to be to not understand it, and then not even do the basic research in order to understand it. Then again, this book is not meant for some internet zoomer who has no idea what communism was like aside from some meme video.
