I'd recommend finding an era and/or area you find intersting and look from there. That's how I got interested in English Romanticism and Hellenistic poetry (Callimachus, Apollonius Rhodius, Theocritus, etc.)

Listen, all good Russian writers are against communism. You will not find any pro socialist literature from Russia that is worth reading. The two I marked with (*) are extremely recommended to you. Read the Overcoat right now it is around 15-30 pages if I remember correctly. Of course you can should read more Dosto and Tolstoy but those two works each will give you a good taste of them.
I just remembered these off my head, I could be missing a few seminal books but the important thing is to read the 18th century guys first, then 19th century, then 20th century, you will get a lot more out of it.

what is /lit/s problem with NYRB books? I haven't read much but they seem like a decent paperback publisher to me. The books I have from them are decent quality and the cover art is not terrible (as in the case of many recently published books). What triggers you anons about NYRB so much?

I am applying into university to study politics and philosophy. The school wants me to write an paper on the subject of why am I applying to this particular program. I have written most of it and have a feeling that it has too many clichés. Do you guys have any ideas for this type of stuff?

P.S English isn't my first language so if there is a lot of typos etc don't be a cunt about it.
