These are all really great books btw, and Signals by Bryan Skyrms is readable for laymen, I would highly recommend it. It's a great work on philosophy of language, and Bryan Skyrms is arguably one of the most important philosophers and social scientists alive today. His approach to language is formal and rigorous in style, but his philosophical presuppositions are thoroughly outside of the mainstream in analytic philosophy (although less so for linguistics).

He basically presents a (semi)formal analysis of natural language, but without relying on any notions like "truth", "falsity", "reference", "representation", etc. In the spirit of Wittgenstein, David Lewis, and Democritus (or at least that's how Skyrms himself bills it).
