I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, but there's obviously something going on with Pynchon. At least he's correct in showing how lust for young girls is everywhere in modern life, even if he himself is kind of complicit.

It's kind of an obvious conclusion at this point, but the American reaction to COVID is proof that the internet has had a net negative effect on society. If I have to listen to one more boomer rant about how fun it is to transfer every single aspect of your life over to ZOOO(big emphasis on this syllable, like a cow)OOOM™, I'm going to blow my fucking brains out. The government is ordering people to stay inside 24/7 and you're welcoming it because, despite your former contempt for young people and their computahs, you're still too old and stupid to realize spending all your time online is a bad thing. Any teenage Discord retard could tell you that, but they're young and you're old and you clearly know better than they do.

Everything is so childish and stupid, old people acting like they're young and young people acting like they're schizophrenic babies. Pop culture bullshit and nostalgia pandering everywhere you look. It really seems like the only way to develop a mature outlook on life is to completely waste your youth on the lamest and most embarrassing things possible, so that once you hit your 20s there's no possibility of ever looking back. Maybe the only way out of this is to bet on future Hollywood execs still retaining enough self-respect to refuse producing anime convention flashback pictures and angry reviewer biopics.

If you have zero writing experience, start with short stories. If you already have an idea for a novel, then write out one scene from it as a self-contained short story. Practice the basics with short stories. Once you get more confident, aim for longer word counts.

Don't fall for the meme that you *have* to write a novel to be a writer, and that short stories are the lesser art form. They're complementary, and there's novellas (longer than a short story, but shorter than a novel) too in-between.

If you have no idea what to write about, think about something that make you feel a feel. Writing fiction is about evoking images and sensations into your reader's mind, and the best way to involve them is to write about something that you're involved with/into, physically and/or emotionally, as well. Your writing will be genuine.
