Firstly, the cetology chapters serve a purpose in detailing the themes of the book; secondly, they are written from a character's perspective; thirdly, they are not suppossed to be part of the plot. Melville wrote the book as three books in one, read his fucking letters. The fact that you keep on bringing up the plot and no other aspects is suspect to begin with, but you seem to be unable to understand anything other than plain narrative.
