Early Christianity did a lot of imports from Hellenic traditions including the more brainy stuff. Some of the writing in the Apocrypha is in decent prose because of that. They actually still do this, ever read Teilhard de Chardin ? Basically you take the really hot new stuff like the Blockchain (Event Horizons for Teilhard) and then say "hey, there's Jesus right there, we always saw this coming, it's in the scripture". Add a bit math to not seem stupid but definitely keep to the original story. Muslims do this as well, like the AIDS cure or Light-Speed measurement in the Quran.

It's one of the best works (actually four works) in world literature. Re-framing the peculiarity of Mishima's world-view as limitation is just a cheap shot. You could as well call Borges's fixation on Metaphysics a limitation.

The point is that if your selfish actions are dictated by long-term benefit not only do they start to look like morality, they are actually moral. For social animals, long-term benefit for the individual is the same as group benefit. That's why biologists say there is no "pure" altruism can exist for an extended period because it is selected out by the evolutionary process. Even if somebody sacrifices himself, the driving force is still caused by the selfish gene wanting to protect the group (aka it's own copies).

No, it's the result of people not being able to deal with the death of god. Actually, of cultures not being able to deal with that, and people being just the product of those cultures. It will take generations to overcome this.

So, apparently about six months or go I signed up for an audible membership(?) and then forgot all about it. Now that I realised I've been cucking myself out of $15 a month on a service I never use, I'm going to cancel my subscription.

However, apparently I've stored up six free audiobooks to download as a result of my subscription, and I have to download them before I cancel otherwise I won't get them.

What are some of the best audiobooks to download, /lit/? I'm into non-fiction mostly, but the topic doesn't matter so long as it's interesting / enlightening as fuck.

Life is locally decreasing the entropy, while at the same time creating much more entropy in general. So the gradient direction as a whole does not change. And if will is agency, then you ARE promoting Teilhardism. God awaits us at the end of the gradient. My point is you don't really need Christianity or any other religion for that. Teilhardism in pure form is not natural science, but it is a philosophy. And definitely not Christian.

But buying food you then destroy DOES contribute to overproduction because you still need the same amount of food to feed yourself, thus you need more food. The financial aspect is there as well, you spend money on a senseless action.
