What e readers are /lit/ approved? I want to get one for my mom for her birthday since her old one is dying, but not sure which to go with. Preferably not a foreign autismbook that requires a lot of technical know how, something simple with a decent screen that won’t break easily. Thanks dudes, happy New Years

the bible is combination of philosophy that anyone with a little life experience and, more importantly, self awareness, should be able to understand and see the importance of, and metaphysical stuff to give people who are too stupid to understand it a reason to "follow the rules" even if they dont comprehend why its good for them. i wouldn't say it requires that much intelligence to understand, you just have to be capable of honest self reflection and analysis, which a surprising amount of people, even intelligent ones, are incapable of doing without clouding their judgement with lies and excuses and justifications, and i guess a little life experience is indeed important to because you also need something to reflect upon

i really only have very basic knowledge on this topic and have only recently begun to explore it and formulate ideas (from a mostly secular perspective) but I will say that I wont accept that because it seems to me like lucifer did nothing of the sorts in the end. correct me if im wrong but lucifer gives "deliverance" through indulgence in sin and temptation under the guise that you are "cutting off the shackles of god" and doing what you want, "true" freedom, but the reality of human nature is that the "temptation" is our animalistic impulses pushing us and the sins those temptations push us towards are activities and aspects of human nature within which human beings can completely lose themselves and destroy or hurt themselves and those around them. you arent getting freedom but true slavery to ones own impulses. real freedom is in self mastery not mindless indulgence and self mastery is what the "shackles of god" are

just remember to always put your love first and foremost, outbursts of hatred like this are just passing friction between people who shouldn't be forced to rub shoulders but are forced by the their situation to do so, try not to focus so much on it. passing sins like these can be forgiven if repentance is made and effort is made to become better, the most important thing is to not lose yourself in it completely. when you feel the anger and hate rising just remember why it is you feel it, try to remember what you truly care about and what really matters, you will find that hatred is not among the answers to those queries

This argument is probably the best one the atheists have. It's not an original argument, but it's still very good. There hasn't been an emotionally satisfying answer made to this argument yet. But here's what Aquinas puts in the Summa:

In the Bible there's this idea that some things are better if they're lost and then found. Like in the parable of the prodigal son. The father threw a party because his son had abandoned him, but then had eventually come back asking for forgiveness. The prodigal son's brother was mad because he never had a party thrown for him even though he never abandoned his father. There was no reason to throw a party for someone that never became a better person, because he was always a good person. So, I guess it's kinda like this in Christianity. Because mankind deserved death, it's all the more greater that they eventually get eternal life.
