This speech is pure Trad Catholic. You will find people at Latin Mass parishes and in stricter religious orders who agree with every line of this speech. You cannot begin to fathom how extraordinary this speech was for trads. They agree with every line of it, and they're young and have great energy. This speech foretells the future of the Catholic Church.

This. Let the Christians have Jerusalem, they've run it better than any of the other religions have.

Because Marxism, positivism, poststructuralism, etc. is all ultimately a species of Protestantism. It all shares the same ideological root as the Protestant Reformation, they're all united by a similar ethos. Catholics stand outside this tradition of rebellion against rightful authority; as such, they are capable of viewing that tradition from the outside and giving more objective critiques of it than someone who exists within the strains of thought themselves.

You have no idea at all how popular The Young Pope is among younger, more traditionalist Catholics. I routinely see young Catholics and young converts to Catholicism wish for a pope like Lenny.

We can only hope.

To be fair, though, while the Church has its crises and moments of great sin, it always seems to manage to get its shit together in time to save the rest of the West from ruin. The Arian Crisis got cleaned up just in time for the Church to face the disintegration of the Roman Empire with a united front. They fixed themselves after the Reformation just in time to form the Holy League and fight the Ottoman invasion of Europe.

Hopefully it will happen again.
