what the fuck /lit/ I thought this was supposed to be "le funny postmodern randumb novel XD" but it (especially near the end) is depressing as fuck.

I actually cried when McWatt died "...oh, well, what the hell, and flew into a mountain" ; ;

I wasn't sure if I was supposed to find this book funny or depressing.

Hey /lit/, I have about $50 on a Barnes and Noble gift card that I got for Christmas. What would you consider as some 10/10 books that I should get?

Just finished this. What does /lit/ think of it? What do you think of the writing style? Do you think it deserves its place, as many scholars hold it to be, in the great tier books of the 20th century?

Does this book ever get into deeper themes, or become more serious? I find it rich and hilarious, but I don't feel like I'm mentally where I need to be for this novel at the moment. I've been considering dropping it for the moment and reading Infinite Jest, but I'd have to drop money I don't really have to get my hands on a copy (no local library copies). I guess I need a good commendation that this book is worth seeing through to the end.

I'm forcing myself into reading again. I sometimes see posts that say I used to read a lot when I was younger and now I don't. Well I'm stopping that shit. I'm starting with Catch 22. A good starting place? I'm only about thirty pages in, but I'm glad I picked it first.
