Cultural indoctrination versus cultural transmission
1. Both involve passive observers (for the most part), merely taking in information
2. Cultural indoctrination-more forceful, set goals, created to shape behavior, thoughts, etc.
3. Cultural osmosis-more inclusive, cultural references, shared community, if aim is to enforce certain ideas (i.e sharing is good, etc.) techniques are more subtle

Any thoughts on this and how literature fits into this model?

Been reading the 2001: A Space Odyssey series. Good old-school science fiction. Anyone else like these? And anyone else read any Arthur C. Clarke? Rendezvous with Rama was awesome but the sequel was garbage because it was co-written with another author. Also read Childhood's End, it was decent.
