I'm an avid outdoorsman, love the backcountry, tracking, camping in the woods etc. Never really read books about it. Recently I've read The Revenant and really enjoyed it. Anybody has any recommendations on similar books. Preferably with good themes of self reliance in the wild, survivalism etc. Cheers

About to start reading this. Is the movie better? I loved the movie.

Though I really enjoyed both the film and book, I appreciate the book slightly more
simply because Hugh Glass has to wade through more shit than he does in the movie. The plots are slightly different as well.

I really liked this book. Lots of action and interesting history. I learned a lot about the fur trade as well by researching fur-trade specific terms used in the book.

The Natives used to build boats out of buffalo hides called "Bull Boats." Fascinating.

The violence was visceral and descriptive, along with Hugh Glass' feelings as you follow him through the book.
