I'm fifty pages from finishing my Claw Of The Conciliator reread, which I will save for tomorrow. This volume feels more eventful than Shadow Of The Torturer, and Jonas' character is a delight to observe the second time around - piecing together the enigmatic hints of his past, and his asides about the exultants and cagogens. The same goes for Dorcas, Talos, and Baldanders - their hidden natures are laid bare on the re-read and they appear more vividly. There is a lot more explcit detail about Urth's wider lore and history volume, where science fiction elements become prominent. However, I am still not a fan of Dr Talo's play - it's too long, obscure, and difficult to visualise who is who. The plotting, characters and setting nevertheless remains superb, with lots of memorable small moments and cameos among larger ones.

I wonder how on Earth Mr Wolfe did it. He definitely outlined and revised extensively, and I would pay willingly for a facsimilie of his notes, flowcharts, index cards, spider diagrams, etc.
