It's not just about being able to read words, you need subtext, cultural context and what not. Which you can NEVER get from just learning a language, you need to use it with native speakers. No one who doesn't actually speak russian with other russian people, will ever be better served with reading russian than reading a good enought translation.

Stop shilling for learning a language. You would need to invest at least two hours a day, plus exercise with natives for it to be somehow usefull after 3-4 years. Not even worth it if there would be 200 great ooks worth reading.
