Just finished rereading BM and it seems like the mortal duel between them just springs out of nowhere. The motivation just doesn't make sense, in fact it doesn't exist, there is nothing in the preceding chapters to suggest any growing animosity between the two. Nothing to suggest the kid has contempt for the judge's views or "judges" him. And nowhere do I see a strong divergence between the two characters in any capacity. Nowhere. Furthermore, nowhere previously does The Judge murder anyone for debating him or arguing with him or not trading with him.
