Empty suburban mcmansion at 2 AM in the Bush era. All the lights out except this one room, the underground basement office. Windowless. Dim, cold tube lighting on a popcorn drop ceiling, wood-paneling, dogpiss stained speckle pattern berber carpet. There's a buck mount on the floor leaning against the wall next to the door. Dumped throughout the room there's a mountain of moldy several-decades-old unsorted mail and papers. Dust everywhere. Somewhere in the pile of garbage there's a Billy Mouth Bass with dead batteries. The air is still and stale and damp. There is a strong odor of sour milk. There's a kind of pathway beaten down to the carpet through the sea of trash leading up to a beige overstuffed leather recliner in which a barely-mobile obese divorcee is planted snoring
