I know its kinda petty but I feel pretty vindicated right now, especially with .hack// and Haibane Renmei. I remember feeling sick to my stomach after my sister convinced me to watch Sword Art Online and was like, "OMG its better than .hack!"

Holy fuck no its not. The continuity of the series is fantastic across all mediums, but the incredibly subtle relationship between the short novel AI Buster and the Sign anime was pretty heart wrenching once you spotted it.

In particular, there was one episode where Bear has a conversation with Mimiru about how the human hand is grown in the womb, and mentions that: "Cells between the fingers selectively die, but as a result fingers are created."

He says this at the location Delta Hidden Forbidden Holy Ground, and the camera even pans on the chapel while he speaks about it.

If you understand the significance of the subject matter and the location from the novel, it just fucks me all up emotionally, I got teary eyed thinking about it just now, what a great series.
