Can anyone tell me if The Fountain is anything more than 700 pages of worthless drivel?

So /lit/ any thoughts/opinions on the Fountainhead?

Currently reading it and have to write a 3 page paper by tomorrow.

First book I've enjoyed in a while for this class.

Not Atlas related but I just finished The Fountainhead last night which was my first Ayn Rand novel.

Was this supposed to be good? It reads as if Rand's words too smart for the common man. So much fucking double talk and hypocrisy and characters trying to outwit one another in simple conversation, over anaylsing every single thing.

I enjoyed the first section of the book, and the fact that it is a triumphant story, but it turns into unrealistic mumbo jumbo drivel. I was curous about Atlas Shrugged but I think this is the last Rand book I will read.

Other opinions?

Titles that you think should be adapted into film.

Pic related, I think a remake starring RDJ would be pretty good.

Okay, this is not trolling.
Completely serious question.
I understand Ayn Rand is hated as a philosopher, and honestly, I can see why.

But I thoroughly enjoyed the Fountainhead, if only for the romance between Roarke and Dominique. I also thought that the characters and the story itself were both interesting.
So my question, if one were to completely take out all pretense of philosophy from The Fountainhead, and pretend Ayn Rand never wrote anything else....

would you like the book?

So I've picked up The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand on a whim, before realizing the hate for her, purely based on the "plot" of an young architect/artist who sticks to his belief.

That's great and all, but I'm 147 pages in and find it hard to continue reading.

/spoilers below
I don't give a shit about Keating and Dominique, the dialog is generally bad and unrealistic, specially during "love" and drama scenes. The only character who i find somewhat interesting to read is Roark, but he's story is essentially finished.

This book is fucking 700 pages long, wtf is in the rest of the these pages that I should keep reading?

relatively new to serious reading, looking for recommendations. Recently read and enjoyed

Candide
The Brothers Karamazov
Notes from the Underground
Crime and Punishment
Naoki Urasawa mangas (monster, 20th century boys, pluto)
Watchment Graphic novel
Currently reading Anna Karenina

High school reading includes 1984, animal farm, WE, Brave new world, The great gatsby, catcher in the rye, tolkien stuff.

Middle school (copious amounts of dragonlance and dark sun books, horrible in retrospect i know)

Pic also related, If you are a fan of ayn rand please do not post. She is everything that is wrong with the world and I have little respect for those that regard her highly.

Dont mind depressing, would like something thought provoking, I dont need an easy read but to be honest I would like something that takes a little less attention than these gigantic and ultra heady russian novels as I could use a bit of a break.

Im thinking madame bovary or the communist manifesto. (BA in finance/MIS here).
