i can't ask this on /his/ because those people are monkeys in regards to anything religion-related

why did the disciples of jesus spread his message far better than he did?
if jesus was so charismatic and enigmatic that he had these amazing followers who were as influential as they were, why didn't jesus himself influence more people?
