Pic related is pretty good. Haven't read the sequel or any other of the books in the same setting, but enjoyed this one - the main char is a non-human humanoid in a semi-hard sci-fi setting (albeit one with terrible sense of scale)

I dig CJ Cherryh's books, especially the Chanur Saga. Who are some other good authors like her? I mean like space opera but with well thought out science and actually alien aliens.

I wasn't that impressed, although it's a decent entry in the "comfy small ship crew" category.
