I really enjoy reading because I like experiencing the stories and tales of people and places, but actually trying to read intelligently just makes me feel dumb as hell. When I try to stop and question what I read I never seem to get anything from it, and most of the time deeper meaning is completely lost on me. I'm trying to be more observant, but I don't know how. I can't even make annotations when I read because when I read, most stuff doesn't seem all too important and I have no idea what I should bother trying to remember or question.

I've been out of Highschool for about 5 years at this point and have no college education. I sometimes really wish I could participate in literature classes so that I could learn and be instructed. I decided that I'm going to go to school starting in January, but until then I've been trying to become more well-read, but it's making me feel dumb as hell. I only really took interest in reading not too long ago. I never bothered when I was younger and it clearly shows.

I don't know why I'm even making this thread. I guess I'm just frustrated.
