Just finished reading pic related and absolutely loved it. It completely blew away my expectations. Why do I feel like this is such an underrated masterpiece? Not to say it is too underrated, it is Dickens after all, but I just don't hear this book talked about very much, especially off of /lit/. What are your thoughts on this book?

Reading it now. I don;t know what the fuck is going on most of the time. The slang is so bizaare. I usually miss important facts until they are reiterated/explained a couple pages later, then i go back and re-read the scene and I'm all like "ooohhhhhhhhh. thats cool". Fuck I feel like a pleb.

Hey /lit/,
I've recently began reading books in my spare time, after previously having the attitude of 'lol books, laaaame'. How wrong I was! Anyways, I just got done reading A Tale of Two Cities and I'm about half way done with Doctor Zhivago. I'm really liking these types of historical fiction books. Can anyone suggest some books that pertain to this genre?

I have found myself nearing the end of A Tale of Two Cities, and I found that I have developed a fascination with the French Revolution. I come her to ask you, what other books are above or on par with this novel that are based off those events?

I just finished "A Tale of Two Cities" and absolutely loved it.

Could anyone suggest another book for me to read?

The main reason I enjoyed AToTC so much was the way everything came together in the end, so suggest things that you felt weaved everything together.

Trying to write an English paper on this book. If you've read it, I'm supposed to write on how the Marquis St. Evremonde represents a symbol of evil and corruption within the French nobility towards the lower class. I know the symbolism is obvious, but I seriously need some help finding a deeper meaning to it because I'm really trying to write a better essay.

I remember reading this piece of shit a few years ago for a class, failed for a month because I could not stand the writing style and stopped reading. They really needed to pay Dickens based on something other than the number of words he wrote.

Don't tell me that /lit/ doesn't have nostalgia threads?

Are you really telling me that seeing these covers and the Book It button doesn't bring a smile to your faces?

Now A Tale of Two Cities, on the other hand...

Whatever happened to the book cover tier list that /lit/ made when it first started up?

Anyone have an updated copy?

A Tale of Two Cities was the first book that got me into classic literature. It's simply a beautiful book, really; nothing special, but it's just one of THOSE books for me.
