Why is this the only good self-help type of book? Something about it keeps me rereading it over and over again and applying it to my life and it helps me greatly to deal with the swaths of normies around me.

I recommend this book.

Just say a thread about this book on another board, I had to ask you guys

why a lot of people here seem to dislike this book?

Since I've been reading it I feel more secure of myself around people and whenever I have to talk to other human beings, specially if they are strangers or women, I feel more secure of myself, I don't know if it hasn't worked for some anons but I for me it wasn't a waste of time reading this

Also, the other thread wa on /pol/ and they were saying that this just turns you into a cuck, but I never got that vibe when I was reading it for the first time, maybe in one chapter but not the rest

Is this still the best book on communication? I'm interested in becoming a better speaker and this seemed like the obvious first step but are there any other worthwhile books on this subject?

Hey there /lit/. I'm looking for self improvement recommendations. Anything goes. Whether it be about improving one's diligence, social skills, overall attitude, or really anything else. I've already read pic related and Models: Attract Women Through Honesty by Mark Manson. Any other recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

At the heart of this book lies the dogma that you should sincerely show an interest in the people around you, and they will naturally like you in return.

Has this premise been eroded by the role of irony in the contemporary social zeitgeist? Are we, by and large, so detached from sincerity because of it's utter derailment by irony that we actually find it repulsive outside of the context of those who we have already built an intimate relationship with?

Are these intimate relationships forged in that same ironic and detached landscape? Are our close friends, then, totally arbitrary in relation to the sincere self, chosen by convenience and circumstance rather than a genuine and mutual admiration of character?

On a purely pragmatic basis, do books like pic, 7 Habits, etc etc have much to impart? do anyone have any experience with them?

I know people shit on self help books but I recently read pic related and it actually had a pretty good message of self improvement, it wasn't as manipulative as I expected from the title. The premise is pretty much "people care about themselves a lot more than they care about you, so appeal to that nature."

As for laziness there's a book called Willpower by Baumeister that explains a lot about motivation and how it works. Thinking Fast and Slow has a few chapters on it as well, among lots of other psychological quirks and shortcuts people take.

Also for general quality of life I read Irvine's book on stoicism and it was a pretty good modern summary of the philosophy, though I'd recommend reading Seneca, Epictetus, and Marcus Aurelius too.

What does /lit/ think about this book?

I was considering reading it because everyone has only good things to say about it, but judging by the title it sounds like a book that teaches you how to be manipulative, insincere and fake for business-type persons who want to network, make connections, and get more power. It was also released in the 30s and I don't wanna learn to address to girls with madame.
