I have recently seen the 2020 TV series brave new word based on the work of aldous huxley
I really liked that series and getting into a book is always a big investment for me
So I want to ask, how does the TV series compare to the actual book itself?

Apparently our society is like BNW. This is clearly not true because other people have lots of promiscuous sex outside of wedlock and I don't. We should change this.

How do you make the case that moral principles should be adhered to independent of a transcendent moral order?

In the West today, our ethical principles are mostly adhered to because, in addition to being inculcated in us from a young age, it's generally understood that not doing so would be disastrous for society.

But in Brave New World, for example, conventional morality has been made obsolete by modern pharmacology and social engineering. In the society Huxley imagines, you wouldn't be able to make a case for maintaining ethical principles on the basis of expediency, because the negative outcomes associated with amorality have been mitigated.

Without appealing to the supernatural, how do people argue that this is wrong? From a strictly utilitarian perspective, isn't it a good thing? Is there a case for moral principles as ends in and of themselves that doesn't involve God?

Looking for books and thinkers who address this question.

Is it a bit pretentious?

Hm. Well I suppose the dependence on the community might serve to keep them humble. But it still seems like they must serve some other function--like a place to store extra men that don't want to deal with all the crap they would need to do to raise a family. I suppose that is one of the principle functions of monasteries in the west too. Sometimes I think the "just accept it, go with the flow" current in eastern philosophies was born out of the dense population, since those societies developed agriculture and became dense so long ago. Basically, without an "just accept it" ethic, there would be way too much intragroup competition in those societies. Perhaps Europe would have gone the same way, but first the black plague cut down the population, and then colonization allowed surplus population to spill out into Africa, the Americas and Australia/New Zealand, so a philosophy to curb individual ambition wasn't necessary--in fact such ambition was rewarded when it comes to the frontier and colonization.

What are some mind blowing nooks, or books that really make you think in abstract terms to their applications to our world, or books that deal with the universe, consciousness, meaning, or spirituality.

Ok /lit/ I have a question.
>America present day
>Drug problems since the 90's
>Libtard fags that think something is wrong if they aren't happy all the time
>People don't care for history past 9/11
>Being a roastie is less frowned upon
>Unreligious
>Find other peoples pain funny
>Kids having sex at a younger age is less frowned upon
>People do things on impulse all the time
My question is, is Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World" becoming more accurate every day?

Anyone else have a Brave New World inspired lifestyle?

>work in retail in a fast fashion store (ending is better than mending)
>recreationally smoke legal marijuana (a gram is better than a damn, all the advantages of Christianity and alcohol and none of their defects)
>entertain myself with video games (electro-magnetic golf) and VR porn (feelies)
>go on vacations to reservations (Thailand, India, Bali) to have an experience of how the savages live and take pictures
>use the pictures of my fun lifestyle on Tinder so that I can have sex with pneumatic girls
>sometimes take MDMA and go to festivals (orgy porgy)

Seems to me like Huxley really was on to something and he wrote it 85 years ago!

>"And then so small." Fanny made a grimace; smallness was so horribly and typically low-caste.
>"I think that's rather sweet," said Lenina. "One feels one would like to pet him. You know. Like a cat."
if brave new world pro or anti manlet?

Was Huxley right? Was John autistic? Did you like the ending?
