Yeah, I realized fairly quickly during reading that I value friendship far more than material to be a complete asshole

>I secure my freedom with regard to the world in the degree that I make the world my own, 'gain it and take possession of it' for myself, by whatever might, by that of persuasion, of petition, of categorical demand, yes, even by hypocrisy (emphasis mine), cheating, etc.; for the means that I use for it are determined by what I am. If I am weak, I have only weak means, like the aforesaid, which yet are good enough for a considerable part of the world. Besides, cheating hypocrisy, lying, look worse than they are. Who has not cheated the police, the law?

ayyy lmao

I'm tired of seeing posts about what you just read, what you're reading, and what you plan to read. Tell me what you're reading, why, and what you think of it so far.

Me? I'm reading Lolita. I thought it was finally time to read it. My wife recommend it to me about three years ago, and I'm finally getting around to it. I prefer classical literature, so it wasn't high on my to read list.
I suppose I like it. I'm only at the point shortly after where Charlotte dies. It's getting more interesting. His prose has been praised to me quite a bit, but half the time it just feels like intellectual masturbation. Still, it's better than most of the authors I've read from that period.
Pic unrelated.

How much do writers get paid every time they submit something to a publisher?
