I don't get what the moral to the story is behind this. Is Burgess implying that the government shouldn't be in the business of regulating morality?

After recently getting the book A Clockwork Orange as a gift from a friend, I'm wondering is it a good read? What are your opinions.

I was at a book store today and I noticed they had a large stack of Summer readings out on this table. A lot of the books were real classics.

Then I saw it. Eat. Pray. Love. And I realized that this was an instance were censorship was desperately needed. I lifted a stack of A Clockwork Orange that was next to this piece of shit, and I made sure to cover all of that easy casual garbage with Burgess's masterpiece. Does it make me a prick? Yeah. But I felt fucking good.

Any similar stories?

I'm debating understand the task of reading this after watching the movie many-a-times and loving it. My only problem is the narrative style of the book. Does anyone have any helpful tips/suggestions to get used to Nadsat within the book? I'm hoping it won't be too much of a challenge but I'd like to know what is going on for the most part throughout the book.
Cheers and thanks /lit/!

How does /lit/ feel about the final chapter that was originally omitted?

Also, what does "starry" mean?

So,

1984 is what's wrong with Soviet-style Communism

A Clockwork Orange is what's wrong with Social Democracy/Welfare Statism

and Brave New World is what's wrong with Capitalism?

Bullshit last chapter. Seem liked a lazy last ditch "okay i'm done" thing by Burgess.

I need a good book to read, something that will make me think.

Similar to that of my pic.

p.s. the movie is fucking terrible in comparison to the book

Hello /lit/,
I just saw the movie made out of this book. I thought it was rather good, and i'd like to know: is this better than the movie? I've read the shining before i watched the movie and was pleasantly surprised...

Anybody like this book?

Fav. quote/part?

I take special pleasure in where he calls the use of the Beethoven's fifth as a sin oh so passionately.

I'm writing a paper on A Clockwork Orange and I'm having some trouble. Can you guys talk about some things I should definitely touch on just to give me some direction?

Also what did you guys think about the 21st chapter, I personally liked it.

Can someone give me a damn description (something like what would be on the back of the book, maybe a bit more in depth) of a Clockwork Orange?

Wikipedia doesn't want to tell me without having me essentially read spark notes, and I can't find a description elsewhere.

..

ITT: Overrated books.

A Clockwork Orange: without having seen the movie, or read any of the book, I already knew what was going to happen. All I had heard of it before reading was praise and admiration. It had been made out to be some kind of life changing story that would make you question freewill and choice. Turned out to be an overly hyped parable.
