Is it important to read Mishima's Sea of Fertility books in order?

Why doesn't Mishima get any respect from this board?

I know there're a few of you on here that are Mishima fans, so I thought I'd ask y'all. I'm currently reading Confessions of a Mask, and I'm pretty unimpressed with it about half way through. I previously read Forbidden Colors and liked it much more. I feel the writing was better. I realize that Confessions of a Mask is Mishima's first novel and therefore this is the most likely cause of the discrepancy. I also realize that I am reading Forbidden Colors as an older, better-read reader that perhaps has a slightly more discerning eye. Accounting for this, however, my question is: for those that have read Mishima extensively, is there an appreciable difference between the Meredith Weatherby translations and the Alfred Marks translations. Thanks. I'll take my answer off the air.
