OMG UR RITE

ALL things are possible. Entry level college stuff. Sure.

All things except of course an atheistic scale of determinism.

For those christians still gasping at the slavery equation, it looks like I'll have to repeat myself before getting on with the night.

Read up on the American revolution and its civil war, and the Spanish civil war. And this one pictured is damn good too.

Don't hate too much children.

OP book looks dull. (Letter to a Christian Nation. To be left largely unread) I recommend this history book instead.

And yet they often are. Conversationally, I never go around saying "as an atheist." Its an aspect of me, but its not a faith. "As an Epicurean..." too a certain extent, but also not something I'd say.

Brilliant piece that sheds light on a lost American history.

You even capitalize it! Funny funny lad. There's nothing "new" about atheism.

Freethinkers goes a long way in filling in the gaps left in American history, by the fundamentalist Christians, over the years.

Cool characters I want to look into are Ernestine L. Rose, Elizabeth C. Stanton (Who wrote "The Womans Bible") and Robert Ingersoll

If you want poetry, we always recommend Walt Whitman.

OP, if you're still about, and for anyone else interested, Its probably a fine read and a very decent case for its thesis statement, but I'd recommend this book instead. Very lively and informative. A history book that fills in all the gaps that theists would like us all to forget.

>What non fiction have you read recently that wasn't assigned for a university course?

That's my thing OP. Not in any classes but soaking up lots of history and biographies lately. Mostly revolutionary and Byzantine. Recent five star recommendation posted.

List upon request I guess.

Late antiquity, fall of western half of Rome to the fall of the Eastern half at the edge of the Age-of-Discovery (Loved early antiquity and ancient to death years ago, will return to it someday) and the revolutionary period. Which we are still very much in. 1776 - 2012

Yes, apparently the Supreme Court hasn't been nice to We the people, for most of our history.

Freethinkers: And currently reading this. I almost teared up at the end of chapter three today. Bed now.

Another fantastic eye-opener. Should be made available to schools along with Thomas Paine's work.

This one piqued my interest.

Instead of Dawkins scientific approach or Hitchens (essayist? I haven't read it. What would you call his approach?) Freethinkers is from the historians perspective. Dispelling the myth that the US is a strictly Christian nation. from its reviews I'm loving it already.
