How do i abandon earthly wishes and focus exclusively on my reading? How did the ancients manage to become desensitized to the ebbs and flows of life despite living in times of constant war? I want to stop thinking obsessively about my shortcomings but no philosopher has shown me the way out so far.

I am filled with jealousy and resentment every time i read about two lovers in ancient greek literature. How come even the most snarky philosophers found delight in life while we sit our asses here and argue about what they wrote on 4chan to cope with our shitty and uneventful existences?
