Well, that's what happens when you're a Christian in name only and don't believe in an afterlife any more seriously than an agnostic. If these people really believed in God, accepting that God has real power rather than just being their figment, then they would never adopt the view that in order to be Christian one must care 100% about every sin, every importunity caused by poverty, and every inequality that exists.

Being Christian cannot be attended by a continual and obsessive care for other people and for personal sin. Doing so is prideful. You are a sinner, therefore you have to give some allowance that you will sin, or you are contradicting God.

>I can't tell if the history of the Bible has been distorted to fit the Christian narrative
I'm afraid that this is wrongheaded; nobody can tell if the history has been modified, but there are many opinionated people who say it has or hasn't been modified. A more interesting question is whether the history as such REVEALS anything, (caps for emphasis) and in order to know that, you must read it yourself. You can't get a second-hand opinion on whether the Bible is the inspired word of God or not.

you just don't get Gould. Keep thinking Argerich is closer to original Bach using pedals, if you wish to. Also, half the pianists you mentionned are orders of magnitude more famous than Gould.
