Sorry if I didn't make myself clear.
I mean that there has been a struggle about shape in paintings and that cubist artists simply made it blow up. See pic related. It's a figurative way to explain the effect they had on art history. Though the question of shape had been explored a lot before, by expressionnist artists for example.
