I just want to share an opposite of the op story
It was a friend of mine that took me to this book store. A woman, yes. I would say it was more like an antiquarian but without all the posh bullshit of overpriced "first editions".
The place was about 5 meters by 3 meters. But way more cramped with books stacked to places to which not even a 2-meter tall person would reach. Door frame was also not taller than 1,80. So in that place you had a bit of everything of the last centuries of the world but a big absence of 21st century. Dusty cover, little light. The oldest bookkeeper I had ever seen, also becoming bitter every day that passes by. The only modern thing in that place was a LED TV connected to cable TV with the Mezzo channel playing. Yes the experiance would be of entering a place that could be used to torture people by depriving them of space with Brahms playing in the background and a store cloak that the only thing he can say in English is "NO PHOTOS!".
