Is Hobbes' Leviathan a work which relies on Christianity as a postulate to its conclusions or is it self-sufficient without faith? Would someone interested entirely in the political and psychological content but not the religion get much value out of the work?

To what extent do you think the visual arts (painting, sculpting, etc.) can be used to inspire literature (poetry, literary drama, prose)? I was looking at Cole's Course of Empire (pic related) earlier and was thinking how good an epic based on the painting would be. There's loads of other paintings which could clearly be translated into literature and make an interesting product. Have any of you every tried this sort of thing in your work?

If anyone has writers block or is bored, try and write a few stanzas on pic related, see what comes from it!
