Things simmered down pretty quick after that.

I think that Kerouac's own personal experiences are nowhere as interesting as the people he describes in depth. His novels are mostly written in the perspective of a passive on-looker; had Neal Cassady written the book instead of the stupid, vaguely poetic drunkard monitoring his progress, things would've gone more smoothly, a little less organized, and yet much more interesting.
