Nobody really wants to deal with Gardner. His prose is garbage, and instead of taking a look at himself as a writer and trying to improve, he decides to die on the hill of a fifth-grader's 70th percentile level of literacy. Instead, there's just endless shilling of a product which reflects no real talent (innate; forgivable) or skill (can be developed; unforgivable). Writing is more than just putting words on a page in the same way that painting is more than just a bit of canvas with some colors on it in an arbitrary arrangement. The Gardner "novellas" are pretty roughly equivalent in quality to picrel. Gardner has the same level of mechanical skill with language, which is to say, not much. Instead of accepting the input of people who tell him that it's just not good and that he should really consider practicing and raising the quality, he just shills himself.
None of that is "gatekeeping prose." It's trying to get someone who has the skill level of a barely-literate, complete beginner that he needs to do a lot of work if he wants to produce something worthy of the incessant advertisement.

>A story is a story
Writing is more than just telling a story. Writing is the medium by which stories are told. It requires practice and discipline to learn the tools of the trade. You can't become a good painter by looking at things, even if developing the skill to critically sort out visual information is crucial to the discipline. You aren't automagically a master at writing just because we all use language every day. There is a depth and artistry to language use which only comes out fully when you decide to focus on our.

Story is what the writing (usually) depicts. The writing itself is the skill with which your depict that story, and this skill can vary widely. It's the difference between the Mona Lisa and picrel.

Are you really too arrogant to admit you have no legitimate reason to hate AI images, yet continue to seethe about them?
I'll wager your writing is similarly devoid of imagination.

We have all seen the glory of the banning of the Frank
We read the "Look Inside" part and decided that it stank
He has burned all of his bridges and has cobwebs in the bank

>10 000 words is still 10 000 words, even if most of it is anime fights and brooding
This guy has drawn 10,000 of these with only minor variation. His skill has never improved. Are 10,000 of these worth the paper they're scrawled on? Are they worth more than one Mona Lisa?

I have argued at excessive length with sci-fi/fantasy writers over writing. The main takeaway I've gotten is that they think poor writing is not only acceptable within the genre but positive. They will go to extreme lengths to justify why they don't have to write well, they just need to [tell the story/depict the actions/build the world/etc.] because they grew up reading Martin and Sanderson. They're utterly incapable in their decrepit minds, terminally stunted by video games and anime, of seeing the medium as deserving of mastery. Writing, to them, is just a different variety of inserting anime into their brains.

So, for the very few beginner fantasy writers who aren't addressed by the above, they're most likely enticed by the literally nonexistent standards. Fantasy writers are literally all the equivalent of picrel's "artist." They put a similar (or less) amount of work into becoming actually-good writers and want to pretend that it's okay to be an author without at least making a collegiate fucking attempt at being a decent writer. Fantasyshits and Dude It's Science! faggots will do anything BUT improve.

My guess is that new writers are just attracted by how low the bar is set.

This is a coherent image. You can see eyes, a mouth, hair. It is, for all intents and purposes, coherent. If you pump out a thousand variations on this image per week, maybe you'll get some dick rubs on deviant art, but all that really means is that you've found a group of other people with really, really, REALLY fucking low standards. Try to have some pride in the quality of your work. You fucking zoomers are supposed to pick up the torch.
