The best "speculative fiction" books I've read, far and away, are The Left Hand of Darkness and A Canticle for Leibowitz. Nothing else I've read in the genres of sci-fi, fantasy, post-apocalyptic, or dystopian fiction comes close to these books.

What could I be missing?
