Are you American? I'm going to assume you are. You should know the history of your nation. "The Rise of American Civilization" by Charles Beard and his wife will enlighten and dispel. Don't rush through it. Keep a search engine on hand to give yourself context for names, places, and events.

Another area of history very important to know about (it's the most important, actually), because it defines secular morality for the modern West, is 1914 - 1945. There is no one book you can go to for this, you actually need to read some of what everyone everyone says, contrast and compare. WW1 is less contentious than WW2, so you can safely defer to pic related there. On WW2 mainstream sources are plentiful and jerk each other off, you can choose whatever suits you. The "other side" is a bit more scarce and less likely to agree with even each other; for them start with David Irving, and Viktor Suvorov.

All books fit into one of three categories. Entertainment books are read just to keep you, obviously, entertained. Knowledge books are read to teach you things; fiction books read for their message or lessons rather than entertainment go here. Understanding books are read to give you concepts you internalize to increase your understanding of things, like math or philosophy, things you have to 'get'.

The first category and a portion of the second can be read while stoned without issue, provided you're smoking a strain that doesn't have a history of impairing your ability to record memories or comprehend abstractions. I would personally recommend picking a period in history you find yourself interested in and following a reading chart on it. This should be suitable to read while high, and you may end up weaning yourself off of weed to a degree as moving into more intense and complicated works begins to feel more satisfying. I remember the first time I just decided not to smoke because it would get in the way of the reading I wanted to do, and I realized that's something the me of a year before would have never even considered.

I don't think any would be detailed enough to be q honest

Here's a chart from /his/ of books to read that will give you an overview of history. Just read around that, then dive into what interests you.

You also don't need to be an expert on every period of world history. This tendency to want totalized knowledge is so prevalent on this board and it eventually hits a brick wall when anons realise the sheer enormity of information in most fields of study. Giving up on the idea of being knowledgeable about everything was maybe the best thing I did, and it actually lead to me reading a lot more, because I wasn't beating myself up over spending too much time reading about the Greeks when I hadn't even started reading about the romans or whatever. Honestly it is gay but you probably already have an idea of what historical periods interest you so you should read about that and skim Wikipedia for general knowledge of the rest
