I recently finished Blood Meridian. I need a new book to read, but everything I crack open pales in comparison. I hate the shitty prose of every book I try now. I have read most of his other books, besides the Orchard Keeper, Suttree, and Outer Dark, but they aren't scratching the itch of Blood Meridian. I tried reading some non fiction like Empire of the Summer Moon, but it's boring. I don't know what I'm exactly asking for here, but can someone rec me a book that will make me want to read again? If it matters I also feel extremely depressed and lost in life.

Books that will help me learn to think for myself? I feel like I am constantly being bombarded by propaganda and marketing from every angle and don't know how to feel / think about anything and i don't trust myself either.

We perceive our reality strung along as a narrative or life-story, so to speak, with a persistence in the past/present/future. Depending on the stimulus, your initial conditioned response can also disrupt the functioning of your central nervous system. This would be known as the fight/flight reaction, if it were unsuccessful (flight) you may experience a reality entirely different from your normal perception. Some may not experience any free will at all - time quite literally freezes or distorts during a life-threatening situation. Motion perception disorders exist as well, severely limiting one's ability to move thru the world or comprehend it beyond still framed images.

In your case though, the distinction is between the conscious vs. the unconscious mind. Someone might be completely logical, yet the dual-process theory of mind does not allow them to make the right choice. (or desired choice)

Otherwise no. A concept can't be too far out there unless it just doesn't make sense

Is writing short stories of different genres a good way to practice writing before I write a novel
