Pic related. I was in an abusive relationship for my last few years of college and we eventually broke up, and it’s been 3 years since then. I read this as an offhanded “oh I heard good shit about it and I should probably read it” and yikes. It was like the author was inside my head, it was upsetting, disturbing, shocking, revealing, and also very healing and made me feel more connected with others. It also drove me to be more of an advocate against abuse overall and be more supportive of victims. I’m a gay guy and this book focuses on men abusing women but as a man I have the opportunity to speak to other men on this stuff and I do think changing minds on it is the only way we’re gonna escape this culture that favors abusers and doesn’t really recognize or teach what this stuff looks like. Yeah overall it was just really good.

Also wanna mention
>4,000 Weeks Time Management for Mere Mortals
essentially fundamentally transformed my perspective on life (for the better) and it introduced me to Hegel. He’s only briefly mentioned in the book but it really effected me and made me want to try reading his stuff. But besides that all of the book itself is fantastic.

unfortunately pic related. there specifically was a portion that either went through the narratives abusers give or the rationalization victims do and it was like he straight up took my most exact thoughts from my last relationship and stamped them on the page. it sucks. made me feel like such a fucking clown. but it really helped me get through it, get over it, and understand it. this book being published in 2002 predicting and explaining my late 2010's relationship almost entirely...it really was helpful.

Arguably this would be good but I feel like it would fall on deaf ears until the incel is in a better place with self-esteem/themselves.
