It's incredible to me how the yankoid zoomers who inhabit this board are incapable of telling a writer's public persona from their actual persona, especially in Larkins case when we have all his letters available. He liked to play the miserable, grouchy wanker, but in fact most of his poems are designed to make you laugh, especially if you've ever had to live in a British provincial town. His letters are mostly shitposts designed to make his friends laugh too. Also, he wasn't ever really lonely or unsuccessful with women. At least three were willing to put up with his shit for decades, they just weren't the type he wanted.
