Pewdiepie's catalog included this. Is this really the normie gold standard for an intro into buddhism? Are there better books?

Is there an equivalent of pic related for Hinduism?
The Buddhist view on reality immediately clicked with me intuitively but I realize that I know nothing about Hinduism (only read the Bhagavad Gita) and I want to know what the fuss is, considering Hinduism still exists and wasn't simply made obsolete by Buddhists.

For Buddhism, definitely start with pic related, it's the best introductory book out there.

I'm currently reading this as an introduction to dharmic doctrine.
In the sixth chapter, the author presents the idea of "deepening" one's perception of the world, through the abandonment of sensual pleasures.
The analogy used by Shakyamuni is the following (roughly paraphrasing): men are like lepers picking at their scabs and holding themselves over a fire that they perceive as soothing instead of painful due to their illness. But if the leper is cured of his leprosy, he will realize the fire is actually harmful and will not seek it out again.
The implication here is obviously that the sensual, worldly pleasures we are so attached to seem to be pleasing (because they entrench us into a self-perpetuating cycle of seeking out pleasure as an alternative to pain), while they are actually harmful because they cause craving and thus suffering.

I understand what this means and I agree with it in theory.
My question is the following: although sensual pleasures beget suffering, renouncing all sensual pleasure also begets suffering, because depriving oneself of happiness, however fleeting it may be, is painful.
What is the right course of action then?
Did Shakyamuni address this question, or give specific recommendations as to how sensual pleasure should be realized as unproductive and gradually relinquished?
